April showers bring... May content ideas! Here are 67 events to help you plan your May newsletters.

There’s plenty of great content inspiration in May, from Star Wars Day (May the Fourth be with you) to Get Caught Reading Month (Shakespeare, anyone?). Use these special events in May to inspire your newsletters, ramp up your open rates and delight your subscribers.

Before you begin…

Remember that relevance is key. Pick events that relate to your business in some way—even if it is as simple as adding a P.S. to remind your readers of the special day.

Some of these days hold special cultural and/or religious significance, so if you choose to refer to them in your content marketing strategy, remember to be sensitive and considerate.

Use this as a guide to help plan your email newsletter ideas for May. We encourage you to experiment and to keep it Lite!

This is a golden opportunity to celebrate the mother figures in our lives, and treat them to something special to thank them for everything they do.

  • Newsletter idea: Send a countdown email reminding people to buy their Mother’s Day gifts in plenty of time

Remember—this can be a sensitive occasion for some, so it may be a good idea to use segmentation to separate those who do not wish to receive Mother’s Day marketing campaigns. You could send an email several weeks before, allowing them to click and opt out (you can then segment them by link click).

This email newsletter from Papier reminds people to get their Mother’s Day cards before it’s too late.
