CTO, Nikola.

MailerLite was one of the first email service providers to release an email marketing MCP server. This exciting feature lets you connect MailerLite with AI tools to turn them into your own personal email marketing assistant.

In this article, we're sharing all the most impressive use cases we’ve found for using it, so that you can replicate them in your own campaigns.

From creating entire emails in MailerLite with a prompt to getting essential insights you can use to optimize your campaigns, here’s our total guide to using the MailerLite MCP server for email marketing.

Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a standard that AI tools use to interact with external software. An MCP server lets your AI tool connect to platforms like MailerLite using this standard. It gives the AI controlled access to your data and allows it to perform specific actions within the connected tool.

The technology gives you an exciting new way to interact with tools like MailerLite. Instead of manually completing tasks, you can run parts of your workflow using natural language. For example, MailerLite’s MCP server lets you prompt the AI to create email campaigns, analyze your data, or add new subscribers to groups.

This has the potential to save time and help you build more effective email marketing campaigns. Keep reading to explore specific use cases and learn how to get set up.

The MCP server works with any AI tool that allows you to add custom MCP connections. Many AI tools allow this, although they often limit the feature to certain paid plans.

You can see a list of supported tools in our knowledge base article. We expect the number of tools that offer this feature to increase in the coming months as use of the technology expands.

For all the use cases in this article, we’ve been using the Pro plan of Anthropic’s Claude chatbot. This is super easy to set up and, at $20 a month, is a relatively affordable way to start.

To set it up, open the settings page, head to Connectors, add the address of MailerLite’s MCP server (https://mcp.mailerlite.com/mcp), hit Connect, and then follow the steps in the pop-up to connect your MailerLite account.

Once connected, you need to give the chatbot permission to access the data in MailerLite. You can either do this every time the chatbot tries to access your data, or click to always allow access.

Now onto the fun part! What can the MCP server actually do to improve your email marketing? Here are some of the most exciting use cases we’ve found.

We’ve included a GIF of each prompt so you can see how it works. We sped these up to 1.25 times the original speed due to file length restrictions.

Remember that when talking to an AI tool, the power is in the prompt. If something doesn’t work immediately, spend some time adjusting your instructions.

This prompt lets you create an entire email campaign in MailerLite with a single prompt!

We provided a link to our recent MCP server blog post. We then asked the tool to write a newsletter summary to promote the blog post and create a campaign in MailerLite that we can send to an Engaged subscribers group.

The entire process from hitting enter to having an email draft ready took just 75 seconds. Mind-blowing! Check it out in the GIF below.

This prompt took some trial and error to get working. We found that it worked best when we specified the sender address and recipients.

Since the AI tool can only create campaigns using the HTML email builder, we also added some simple design instructions, such as:

  • Making the width 600px

  • Keeping the email mobile responsive

  • Adding an image

  • Using the styles from the blog post

You could experiment with other instructions to get the email looking how you want it to.

While we chose to create the email based on a blog post, you could provide other instructions for writing the email. For example:

  • Paste your already written email into the LLM and ask it to create the campaign

  • Upload recent social post text and ask the tool to create an email based on these posts

  • Ask the LLM to write an email based on notes you upload or a particular topic

If you want more control over the email copy, you could also split the prompt into steps. For example, by first asking the tool to write the email and then, when you’re happy with the content, asking the tool to create the campaign.

Prompt

Please read this blog post: _____

Write a 150-word email summary of the article that encourages people to click through to read it. Include a cta button at the bottom.

Turn the summary into a draft in MailerLite being sent to the group newsletter subscribers. Use the sender address _____

Add this image to the top of the email. https://www.mailerlite.com/img/containers/assets/blog/blog-image_mcp-launch_feature.png/99ae1b5336b0207aa123cd4d928e7833.webp

Make the email max 600 px wide on desktop but still responsive.

Use the same brand colors and fonts as the webpage.

One of the biggest challenges MailerLite customers face is knowing what to send in every newsletter. That’s why our content ideas articles are so popular.

But with this MCP prompt, you can get tailored campaign suggestions based on what has previously worked for your brand. Use it to fill up your content calendar in minutes!

This prompt results in a deep analysis of what has worked in the past. It uses this to suggest future newsletter ideas and ways to optimize subject lines and content.

Prompt

Please analyze my past campaigns to see what resonates most with my subscribers. Then, make suggestions for future campaign ideas.

*The prompt used in the GIF also has a line asking the tool to not share any subscriber addresses. We didn’t want to include private details in a public video.

AI tools connected to our email marketing MCP server are great at analyzing your data and quickly finding weak points and ways you can improve.

In this prompt, we asked the tool to analyze a welcome sequence, discover where the biggest drop-offs are, and also make suggestions for improvements.

The tool accurately identifies issues with the automation while making suggestions that would genuinely improve performance, such as writing less generic subject lines and sending the third email faster.

Prompt

Please analyze my "welcome emails" automation. Tell me which email has the highest drop-off and any other issues you spot. Please also suggest how we could improve.

This prompt gives you a quick analysis of your most recent campaign and then compares it to previous ones. Use it to see what went well and where there’s room to improve. It also suggests ideas for future campaigns.

It’s a super quick way to see how your most recent campaign performed from inside your AI tool.

Prompt

Please analyze my most recent campaign, tell me how the performance compares to other emails, and make suggestions to improve next time.

*The prompt used in the GIF also has a line asking the tool to not share any subscriber addresses since we didn’t want to include them in a public video.

Solo founders and marketing teams often struggle with creating content for multiple platforms. This prompt lets you turn any of your recent email campaigns into a post you can share on social media.

Our prompt is quite generic since we’re using it as an example. When writing yours, include specific directions to generate a post that suits your brand.

You could specify the hook you want to focus on, define your writing style, ask it to use emojis, include a call to action, and more. The key is to experiment to discover what works.

Prompt

Please write a LinkedIn post based on the email campaign titled "MailerLite MCP Launch Announcement." Make it around 100 words and written in an engaging style suitable for the platform. The first sentence should be an enticing hook. Include 2 relevant hashtags.

As you build out your strategy, it’s only natural that you’ll end up with old email drafts lying around and clogging up your dashboard. Remove these in a flash by asking your AI tool to delete them.

This prompt analyzes your current setup and then suggests further automations that could improve your email funnel. It also includes the exact emails to send in each one.

This prompt creates the automation draft in MailerLite and the relevant groups you can use to trigger the automation. Just be aware that you’ll have to set up the triggers and add emails to the automation yourself.

Prompt

My business sells … to …. I'm defining my email marketing strategy. I'm currently sending newsletters and a welcome email sequence but I want some more automations. Please suggest 3 automation ideas and create automation drafts I can work from in MailerLite for each one.

Your subject line is one of the most important parts of your campaign since it’s what encourages people to open your messages.

When planning your upcoming campaigns, ask the AI tool to look at the subject lines that have performed well in the past and use the analysis to suggest ones for your upcoming campaign.

This prompt works well in the video. But it will work even better when connected to an active account with more campaign data to go on, rather than the test account we’re using for this article.

Prompt

I'm writing an email to promote an article about email marketing MCP server use cases. Please analyze my previous campaigns and suggest 3 subject lines that are likely to generate high engagement.

This cool prompt can save a ton of time when you need to share email previews. Instead of manually going into each campaign and copying and pasting the link, ask the AI tool to gather them for you.

This turns a tedious manual task that takes minutes or more, depending on the number of previews you want to collect, into one that takes seconds (34 seconds to be precise).

You could also adapt this prompt to get the previews for:

  • All emails in a particular automation

Prompt

Please go into MailerLite and collect the preview URLs for all my campaigns.
