Frequently asked questions
Understanding the changes
Why was the Free plan changed?
We want MailerLite to help you grow from day one, so we're unlocking premium features like custom templates and blogs on the Free plan.
Establishing clear, sustainable limits will keep the Free plan running faster and more reliably, while also protecting your email deliverability and preventing misuse.
How do these changes affect my account?
If you have fewer than 250 subscribers and send fewer than 2,500 emails per month, you can continue using your account as usual.
If you exceed the 250 subscriber limit, sending campaigns, running automations, and adding subscribers manually to MailerLite will be paused. You need to upgrade to a paid plan or reduce your subscriber count to below 250 to continue sending.
If you exceed the 2,500 sending limit, sending campaigns and automation emails will be paused. You will need to upgrade to a paid plan or wait until the limit resets the following month.
Additionally, you gain access to more features, including the Custom HTML editor, custom campaign and landing page templates, Promotional pop-ups, and more.
What happens to my free account when feature use limits are enforced?
Feature use limits are planned to be enforced on August 13, 2026. Once the changes are rolled out, you’ll be able to have 3 automations, 3 forms, 1 digital product, 1 landing page, and 1 website.
If your account is within the feature use limits, you’ll be able to continue using it as usual.
If your account exceeds the feature use limits, you will need to upgrade to a paid plan or reduce your active automations, forms, landing pages, websites, or digital products to fit within the new limits.
Subscriber and sending limits
Will I be charged automatically if my subscriber count or email sendings exceed the Free plan limit?
If you’re on a Free plan, you’ll only be charged if you choose to upgrade to a paid plan manually.
To keep your campaigns and automations running smoothly, follow these steps to upgrade your account. Once you’re on a paid plan, your account will automatically upgrade when you reach the subscriber or sending limit for the plan you’re on.
How is the subscriber limit calculated?
Each unique, active email address is counted as a subscriber towards your plan’s subscriber limit. We don’t count subscribers more than once, even if they appear in multiple groups or segments. We also don’t count unsubscribed or bounced contacts toward your limit.
How is the email sending limit calculated?
Each sent campaign and automation email counts towards your email sending limit. The limit resets each month on your account registration date if you have a Free plan, or on your billing date if you have a paid plan.
How do I clean my subscriber list to get back under the 250-subscriber limit?
You may be able to stay below the 250-subscriber limit by removing inactive subscribers - those who no longer open your campaigns - from your email list.
Head to the Clean up inactive tab in the Subscribers section of your dashboard to get started. See detailed instructions for how to remove inactive subscribers here.
You could also use MailerCheck to remove low-quality subscribers like role-based accounts, disposable email addresses, and email addresses with typos. Head to MailerCheck to analyze 10 email addresses for free.
Feature use limits
What are the feature use limits?
Each plan allows the following number of active items:
- Free plan - 3 automations, 3 forms, 1 landing page, 1 website, 1 digital product.
- Comfort plan - 50 automations, 10 forms, 10 landing pages and websites combined, 5 digital products.
- Power plan - Unlimited feature use.
Note: Campaigns are not affected by feature use limits.
How are the feature use limits calculated?
The limits apply to active items, not drafts. For automations, forms, websites, landing pages, and digital products, only active or published items are counted; drafts and unpublished items don't count. This means you can keep extra items in your account as long as they are not active beyond your plan's limit.
What happens if I exceed a feature use limit on the Free plan?
Before August 13, 2026, you will simply be informed if you exceed any limits, so you have time to review your feature use and make changes.
Starting August 13, 2026, if you go over any Free plan limits, your account enters a restricted state until you get back under the limits or upgrade. In this state, the following actions are disabled:
- Creating, activating, and editing automations, forms, websites, landing pages, or products
- Sending emails
- Importing subscribers
A notification appears at the top of the app, and a pop-up explains which limits you are over. To leave the restricted state, deactivate enough items to get back under the limit, or upgrade to a paid plan.
What happens if I am exactly at a feature use limit, not over it?
You can still create and save drafts, but you cannot activate or publish anything new in that feature until you reduce your use or upgrade.
How can I review which feature use limits have been exceeded?
When your account exceeds a feature use limit, you'll see a pop-up listing each feature type you're over on, along with your current count against the limit. From there, you can view your plan options, or expand the pop-up to see every limit you're exceeding. To get back under the limit, head to the relevant feature page and deactivate items as needed.
How can I reduce my feature use to stay within the plan limit?
To reduce your active feature use, you can deactivate your automations, forms, websites, landing pages, or digital products.
- Automations can be deactivated using the Pause button available in the automation Overview.
- Pop-up and promotional forms can be deactivated using the Status toggle. Embedded forms can only be deleted.
- Landing pages and websites can be deactivated in the Overview page by clicking the Unpublish button.
- Digital products can be deactivated using the Status toggle.
I deactivated an automation, form, website, landing page, or digital product while over my limit. Why can't I turn it back on?
If you deactivate an item while your account is over a limit, you cannot reactivate it until you are back under your limit. Pausing an item does eliminate the restricted state on its own; you need to get your total active count under the limit before you can switch anything back on.
Upgrading your plan
How can I upgrade my plan?
Upgrade your account by heading to Account settings, then Plan and billing, and then hitting Upgrade. Choose either a Comfort or Power plan and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process. Use the drop-down menu to adjust the plan size to match the number of subscribers you need.
What are the differences between the Comfort and Power plans?
Both our Comfort and Power plans contain tools to create effective email marketing campaigns with automations, newsletters, landing pages, and more.
The Power plan offers live chat support and unlimited feature use, while the Comfort plan provides access to email support and generous use limits designed to meet most needs.
Check out our pricing page to see all the features included in each plan.
Do you offer any discounts?
Yes, you can save 10% year-round by purchasing an annual plan over a monthly one. Plus, nonprofits can save 30% off any plan at any time of year. If your organization is a nonprofit, check out our nonprofit discount page to learn more.
What happens if you don’t upgrade
Will any account data be deleted if I don’t upgrade?
All your account data will remain in your account.
If you exceed your plan limits, its usage will be restricted. You will be able to upgrade to a paid plan to take full advantage of our platform. Alternatively, you can clean up your subscribers or deactivate automations, forms, websites, landing pages, and digital products to stay within the Free plan limits.
Will my active automations and scheduled emails be affected if I don't upgrade?
If you have over 250 subscribers or send over 2,500 monthly emails and don’t upgrade, your active automations will stop working, and your scheduled emails will not be sent.
If you surpass feature use limits, you won’t be able to create, activate, and edit automations, forms, websites, landing pages, or digital products. Additionally, email sending and subscriber imports will be disabled.
Will my forms and landing pages stop collecting subscribers if I don't upgrade?
If you surpass the 250-subscriber limit, forms and landing pages will continue to be active and collect subscribers without showing any errors to your visitors.
If you surpass feature use limits, your active forms and landing pages will continue to work; however, you won’t be able to create, activate, and edit automations, forms, websites, landing pages, or digital products. Additionally, email sending and subscriber imports will be disabled.
Will my integrations stop working if I don't upgrade?
If you have under 250 subscribers, everything will continue to work. If you have over 250 subscribers, connected e-commerce integrations will continue to sync existing customer data, but they will not add newly opted-in customers to your email list.
What if I don’t take any action?
If you’re within subscriber, sending, and feature use limits and don’t upgrade, no changes will be made to your account.
If you have over 250 subscribers, exceed email sending or feature use limits, and don't upgrade:
- You will not be able to send campaigns, run automations, or add new subscribers manually.
- You will not be able to create, activate, and edit automations, forms, websites, landing pages, or digital products (applies when feature use limits are exceeded).
- Your account will remain active, so you don’t lose any data.
- You will not be charged unless you choose to upgrade.
